The Call for Entries around the country for the Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA) is up and running as the 2011 awards season begins.

First away are the Tasmanian and Western Australian events. The Tasmanian Awards will be held on Friday 5 August in Hobart. Western Australia will stage its award on Saturday 27 August in the Astral Ballroom of the Burswood Entertainment Complex.

Entries close on Friday 15 July.

November is set to be a marathon awards month with Victoria and South Australia & NT staging their awards on Friday 4 November; New South Wales, Friday 11 November; the ACT Page Awards on Friday 18 November and the Queensland PICA Saturday 19 November.

Printing Industries National Communication and Technical Services Manager, Joe Kowalewski, said Call for Entry close-off dates for the November events would be announced over the next couple of weeks.

“While the number of industry companies has been declining, the entry numbers has been increasing making each event more competitive than the last,” he said.

“This is due in part to the changed structure in which the only way to enter the best-of-the best National Print Awards is by winning a gold medal in the state events; the uniform criteria and branding of the PICAs around the country and the increased recognition that winning an award at any level is a valuable marketing tool to use with clients and potential clients.”

Mr Kowalewski said entrants should pay particular attention to ensuring their work is well presented and that entry forms have been correctly filled in.

“Carefully check the category list to ensure the correct category has been selected and make sure all sections relevant to that entry has completed, especially where technical information is required.

“Also remember that each entry needs an individual entry form. If an individual piece is intended for more than one category, it is best to submit a work sample for each where practical with the additional entry form.”

Mr Kowalewski said queries on entry criteria should be directed to the Printing Industries office in the relevant state. Contact details are available here.

“General information, including links to previous PICA results and the results and photos from this year’s National Print Awards are available in the PICA & NPA Information section of PrintNet via this link or by calling 1800 227 425,” he said.
