Canon adds new 24 and 17 inch large format printers with auto calibration to its 12-ink imagePROGRAF range.
Canon Australia will be previewing two new 12-ink large format printers at the PMA show in Melbourne on the 4th May.
Steve Brown, Production Printing Systems Group Manager, Canon Australia said, "the new units are aimed at graphics arts professionals and photographers and they demonstrate Canons commitment to the market with a host of updated technologies that help to deliver consistent accurate colour, high-quality output and unrivalled productivity.
"Boasting industry-leading technologies, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6100 is designed to deliver high quality output at high speed. The LUCIA 12-pigment ink system includes red, green, blue and two shades of grey to deliver a wider colour gamut, well-balanced colour, and smoother gradations. The imagePROGRAF iPF6100/5100 also incorporate black, matte black, grey and photo grey inks to deliver high quality prints with less graininess, more durability (scratch resistance) and reduced bronzing.
"A newly implemented and easy-to-use automatic colour calibration tool utilises a newly developed built in multi-sensor that rivals any commercial densitometer, and allows users to adjust for colour differences caused by ageing, individual print heads, or between different printers in order to obtain stable colour reproduction. And to ensure productivity and efficiency, the calibration process can be completed in approximately 10 minutes, much faster than competing models," said Brown.
These new imagePROGRAF devices also incorporate Kyuanos (meaning azure or sky blue in Greek), a new general purpose colour management system developed by Canon which enables users to more accurately match colours between different devices and environments. Kyuanos supports an expanded colour palette with higher bit numbers and resolution to ensure cleaner more vivid colour reproduction with improved gradation. Users can optimise the output for different lighting conditions to guarantee accurate colour matching in different lighting environments. This key technology also allows ambient light adjustment based on numerical light analysis, visual matching of object and light source colours and chromatic adaptation.
"Even with all these industry-leading features, the imagePROGRAF iPF6100 sacrifices nothing in speed," said Brown. "It has a twin, high-density print head that improves print speed and durability due to the 30,720 nozzles in two 1 print heads. By incorporating FINE (Full - photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology, 4-pl (picolitre) ink droplets ensure delicate colour gradation, high-definition expression and accuracy. For greater throughput and productivity, the L-COA processor performs the high-speed processing of high-volume 12-ink image data and simultaneously controls the operation of the printer and the dual high-density print head system," he continued.
The imagePROGRAF iPF6100/5100 comes with a range of features to ensure easy set up and operation. This includes a new paper guide that facilities quick and easy front feeding of media and enhanced user support thanks to a stronger link between driver software and manuals. Another example is the automatic Skew Correction Function that automatically adjusts media to remove skew in any orientation and feeds paper correctly. This eliminates the need to manually adjust paper making the iPF6100/5100 extremely user friendly.
By considering every possible function and use of the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and iPF6100 - and not compromising on speed or image quality - we have produced a device that is a cost-efficient answer to market needs. And, with the new colour calibration tool, the imagePROGRAF iPF6100 and 5100 deliver unsurpassed colour accuracy and consistency print after print, no matter what the environment, said Brown.
The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6100 will be available from dealers throughout Australia from July 2007 and the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 from August 2007.
Previews of the iPF6100 will be on display at the PMA Imaging Technology Expo in Melbourne from the 4-6th May and at Printex in Sydney from the 24-26th of May.
