Mutoh Zephyr UV Printer shown at FESPA
Having just announced two new ValueJet printers, Mutoh had another surprise up their sleeve with the launch of the new Zephyr, a CMYK 64” (165 cm) professional UV inkjet printer for roll-to-roll printing.
Mutoh state that this machine has been completely engineered and developed by Mutoh’s Belgian R&D centre.
The printer will also handle rigid boards up to a thickness of 20 mm. Media handling is catered for by a motorised unwinder/winder system with dancer bars for media rolls up to 100 kg and for rigid media, transport tables can be positioned very quickly. Mutoh claim that switching between RtR and Rigid can be done in minutes.
Incorporating 4 Xaar 760 high end variable drop greyscale heads which provide for high image quality and high productivity.
For high quality work, the Xaar heads produce 8 picolitre droplets whilst 16, 24, 32 & 40 pl drops are enabled for saturation work. 6 levels of greyscale can be enabled, which Mutoh say is equivalent to 6 densities of CMYK and eliminates the need for extra process colours.
Utilising Mutoh proprietary flexible UV inks that include an integrated ink conditioning and degassing system. The machine has a bulk ink system built in which provides ink capacities of 3 litres of ink per colour and also enables refilling on the fly.
Curing lamps are mounted into a cassette which can be replaced by the operator.
The Zephyr will be on show at Drupa in May and should be shipping towards the end of the year.
