EFI has introduced a new member of its award winning Vutek QS family of superwide format UV printers, the QS3200r.They say it is an exceptionally high quality, high-speed roll-to-roll UV printer that produces images up to 3.2 metres wide at 1,080 dpi with High Definition Print (HDP), at the rate of up to 1,850 square feet per hour.

"The demand for roll-to-roll UV printing is heating up," said Chuck Dourlet, vice president of marketing EFI Vutek. "The QS3200r is ideal for the print service provider who wishes to migrate from roll-to-roll solvent printing to UV, or to add a high productivity UV roll-to-roll solution to the mix. The QS3200r merges the exceptional image quality of UV, the high speed achievable in a roll-to-roll format and the DNA inherent in a Vutek printer. This combination of quality and speed in a UV platform makes the QS3200r unique in the industry."

It incorporates Vutek's exclusive High Definition Print technology combining 8 colour printing, 1080 dpi image output, Vutek Smoothing, an optimised bi-directional printing mode, and the EFI Fiery XF RIP. Even four-point type is rendered crisply, and the printer's EFI Fiery XF RIP ensures consistent, accurate colour output every time for superior unmatched quality from a UV printer.

The QS3200r can produce images in an 8-colour mode at speeds exceeding 900 square feet per hour. For even greater throughput, the printer changes from 8 colour to a Fast-4 colour mode with output up to 1,850 square feet per hour.

The printer uses specially developed Vutek QS Series r UV inks ideally suited for roll-to-roll applications. The inks are available in eight colours (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Light Yellow and Light Black; alternatively, the printer can be operated in the Vutek exclusive Fast-4 mode with two CMYK banks for faster speed. The new Vutek QS Series r inks have unique properties that allow printing on fabric, backlit materials, banners, adhesive backed vinyl, static cling, and a variety of different substrates. In addition, the Vutek QS Series r inks are designed to be flexible, making them especially suitable for projects with complex curves, such as kiosks, vehicle wraps and more. This new, highly pliable ink can conform to intricate shapes without damaging the image, including conforming to rivets. Finally UV offers superior ink yield, or square feet per liter, resulting in lower ink usage relative to solvent alternatives.

"We will be showing the QS3200r at the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Expo and Conference in Orlando, Florida, October 24-27," added Dourlet. "It aligns perfectly with the conference theme: Imaging in All Its Technological Splendour, and we are excited to see the reaction of conference attendees to this breakthrough product."

The EFI's Vutek QS3200r will be available for shipping in fourth quarter 2007.
