In a move to introduce their safety and signage products to the market that uses them, Spandex Asia Pacific and Avery Denison have partnered to show their wares at one of Queensland’s largest mining expos.

Held in Toowoomba every year since 2010, the Surat Basin Energy & Mining Expo fills the entire Toowoomba Showgrounds with equipment, machinery, transport and services needed to drive one of Australia’s fastest growing economic regions. The Surat Basin covers a vast 280,000 sq kilometer area of Southern Queensland and extends into

Northern NSW. Coal and Gas are the primary products and the port of Gladstone is currently undergoing a $3.2 billion expansion to deal with the growth. As the economic hub of the area, Toowoomba itself is slated to see $11 billion of total development spending.
Avery Dennison’s OmniCube reflective media is the primary focus, for safety and directional signage. OmniCube is a microprismatic film that provides uniform light return, regardless of orientation. This means that safety and direction signs are visible to drivers of all vehicle cabin heights day and night. This is achieved by precise aligning of the prismatic ‘cubes’ to reflect 60% of light back to the driver, at all angles of approach, compared with 40% reflectance by other products.
Spandex Marketing Manager Nathan Barclay explains: “Reflective sheets and films are essential for road, mine, personal and plant safety – it’s the difference between seeing or being seen and invisibility. Avery Dennison has a broad range of prismatic and glass beaded media – including printable sheets – that set the standard for all-day visibility. The rapid growth of Southern Queensland’s CSG mining industry drew us to the expo so we could meet with specifiers, plant operators and traffic controllers to demonstrate just how much safer it is to use OmniCube and related products.”
Spandex Area Sales Managers Andrew Baker and Richard Palmer were in attendance, along with Avery Dennison’s Business Manager, ANZ, Reflective Materials; Paul Matuschka.
