The combined Pacprint and VIIE shows have finally opened with traffic thoughout the day being steady but not fantastic.

Most of the wide format players were exhibiting, some having gone to a great deal of creativity with their stands but all with the latest and greatest product offerings.
Of all the news coming out of Day 1 the biggest news was the announcement by Mimaki that they were to open their own office in Sydney with the potential of appointing more distributors other than DGS Mimaki who as most know have done most of the heavy lifting for Mimaki up till now and also latterly GBC Neopost who added their weight to the Mimaki distribution about twelve months ago.
It will be interesting to see how all this turns out in the coming months.
Mimaki put out a press conference at the show and made the announcement, the official release reads….Mimaki Engineering Co. Ltd. (President: Hisayuki Kobayashi), a leading manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers and cutting plotters, established a new sales subsidiary in Sydney, Australia on April 1, 2013 which will begin operation starting August, 2013. With the establishment of a new subsidiary in Australia, it is Mimaki’s intention to expand upon its presence and strengthen its sales network to provide superior customer service.
In Australia, Mimaki has for a long time sold its products partnering with local distributors and will continue to do so. By establishing the wholly owned new subsidiary in Sydney, Mimaki will further strengthen its position in Australia’s Southeastern area including major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. The new operations are a sign of Mimaki’s commitment to the Australian industry, their customers and their desire to provide the best after-sales service and support.
Hiroshi Okino, Managing Director of Mimaki Australia, says: “It is our pleasure to announce the launch of Mimaki Australia Pty. Ltd. We are looking forward to increasing opportunities to communicate directly with customers so that we can reflect Australian customers’ opinions on our future products and services. “
With regards to other wide format exhibitors, Wide Format Online will present a variety of videos on individual exhibits in the coming days and weeks. Our newsletters and magazine will promote these exhibits mainly for the benefit of those that could not attend the show.
