Canon U.S.A., have announced the new imagePROGRAF S-series large format printers which they say will provide exceptionally rapid print speeds for high-volume production environments. Wide Format Online is endeavouring to establish if and when these machines will be available in our region.

The S-series of imagePROGRAF printers comprise the imagePROGRAF iPF9000S and iPF8000S printing at 60- and 44-inches respectively. Both machines will be on show at Graph Expo 2007 in the Canon booth, # 2400.

The S-series will increase the speeds by up to a 40 percent over the existing imagePROGRAF iPF9000 and iPF8000, producing a A0-sized print (32.5” x 40.6”) in just 4.9 minutes in Standard Mode on glossy photo paper.

Canon have dubbed these machines as Production Units that will retain the image quality that the Canon range has become known for.

Operators are able to replace empty ink cartridges without interrupting the printing process. Cartidges are available in 330 and 700ml capacities.

Other features of the new printers include the 80 GB hard drive allowing more print jobs to be queued and automatic media skew correction.

Canon have dropped the traditional 12 colour Lucia inkset down to an 8 colour inkset which includes Cyan, Photo Cyan, Magenta, Photo Magenta, Yellow, Black, Matte Black and Gray ink tones. The S Series incorporate a dual print head system employing 30,720 nozzles and the printers are able to employ up to 5,120 nozzles per colour – the most nozzles per colour in the industry.

The S-series maintains the built-in colour calibration for colour stability, automatic clogged nozzle detection and compensation for reliability.
