Andy McCourt has reported in the latest issue of Print21 (see story here) that Memjet will make its first appearance at a printing trade show.
Memjet is the high speed printing technology, pioneered by Australian Kia Silverbrook that has the potential to radically change the wide format industry.

Andy reports that Memjet’s positioning at drupa is deliberately alongside other wide format players in order to show comparisons of speed and quality. Several other exhibitors at the show will be showing OEM equipment that utilise Memjet technology.

So far the technology has not breached the 42 inch (see September article in Wide Format Online) and non of the major wide format players have adopted the technology yet. In the last interview we did with Santiago Morera of HP at the FESPA Asai show last year, he was asked if HP had considered adopting the technology (see copy of that interview by clicking here). However Memjet’s appearance at drupa may be a game changer in this regard.

Memjet have also indicated that they are working on a UV inkset in addition to their water based CMYK inkset that is being used currently.

Memjet has opted to develop the technology and licence the technology to other OEMs in preference to developing their own equipment.
