Digital print will be the focus of a new range of courses being launched in Sydney during the next few weeks.

Printing Industries National Manager, Learning and Development, Ian Walz, said the courses bring a new focus on the technical elements Printing Industries identified from its members which they say are needed for companies to successfully enter the digital print area.

“Digital printing is being taken seriously by many companies who want to transition into that marketspace. However they need to ensure that their staff have the necessary skill sets to make the transition well.

“There is an understanding the knowledge and skills required in the digital area differ from those in a traditional offset business,” he said.

The first of the new courses is Colour Management which will be held at Printing Industries Auburn office on Thursday 8 September. Course content ranges from the basics of colour management through to ICC colour profiling, calibration, mapping; RGB, CMYK and LAB colour spaces, proofing options, colour viewing standards, and understanding ISO 12647.2 – Process Standard Offset specifications.

A day-long Digital Print Customer Service workshop will be held on Wednesday 14 September which has been formulated specifically for digital print shops or offset companies about to enter the digital space.

An introductory Digital Print Estimating course will be held on Wednesday 28 September and encompasses print sheet estimating, various forms of digital format estimating, complex print estimating, standards and finishing and the correct method for preparing and presenting accurate quotes.

The associations’ Print Production and Procurement workshop which includes digital prepress workflow, production and procurement specifications, stock selection considerations, printing, binding and finishing options will be held on Friday 9 September.
