Specialised print group Opus, announce that they are expanding their print network into Singapore and China, and also strengthening their domestic New Zealand operations.

Comprising a collection of six of Australia and New Zealand’s most successful focused print providers, Opus Print Group is a success story in the local print industry. Brought together by the New Zealand private equity group Knox Investment Partners, Opus has grown rapidly during the global downturn and generated consistently strong returns.

Responding to their existing clients’ needs for a longer run capability, Opus has signed strategic alliance agreements with C.O.S Printers in Singapore and Hung Hing headquartered in Hong Kong with several print facilities in China.

This means the Opus Group can now offer local clients the best of both worlds in terms of speed, specialisation and scale. Extending Opus’s long run capability will complement the group’s short run, fast turnaround strength. Clients will benefit from greater control and consistency, whilst also receiving domestic short run / print on demand support for both the front and back end requirements of all long run print jobs.

Managing Director of C.O.S Printers, Alfred Ang said, “We look forward to working closely with Opus and their CEO, Cliff Brigstocke, to service clients across Australia and Asia with a one-stop group print capability. Opus and C.O.S will provide a seamless quality print product for all of the needs of larger regional clients.”

Highly respected as President of the Print and Media Association of Singapore, Mr Ang established C.O.S Printers with a reputation for quality printing and solid long-term relationships. It now occupies a purpose built, state-of-the-art plant of 60,000 square feet.

Opus Print Group already has a substantial footprint in New Zealand through Omnigraphics, the dominant large format, outdoor printing company, and Cactus New Zealand, an off-shoot of the highly successful specialist outdoor printing company based in Sydney.

Adding to these businesses will be the Opus response to the growing area of fast-turnaround digital book printing on demand. Ligare New Zealand will be established by Richard Celarc, the original founder of Ligare in Australia, now the largest specialty book printer in New South Wales.

Re-locating to New Zealand from February 2010, Richard will oversee the building of a world-leading fast response printing business in Auckland.

“There’s no more exciting time to be in the business of printing, we are responding to shorter deadlines and new digital formats and we see the New Zealand business as a template for the very future of printing. Experiencing the changes of the last 40 years has taught me to welcome technology and change, and always focus on the needs of our customers,” said Richard Celarc.

Joining the latest printing equipment and hand-picked staff will be a cutting-edge Digital Asset Management system that will enable Opus to provide a new level of service for publishers. Cliff Brigstocke said, “We’ve looked at the best systems in the world and what clients’ needs will be in the future, and decided to invest ahead of the curve.”
Bringing positive thinking and a focused approach to printing, Opus are standing alone as a ‘good news’ story in this region’s local print industry. With Singapore, China and organic growth in New Zealand, the group’s offering to clients is more complete and allows Opus to grow from their established customer base and partner with new clients across the Asian Region.
