DES is offering you cutting edge technology & international expertise with the "Pixel to the Book Shelf" hands on training course. The workshop will take you through a hands on process of designing a book from digital files to a bound book with an introduction to each of the steps.

International Expertise
Delivered by Eric T. Kunsman, a photographer and book artist currently teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, this 2 day course is a one off chance for creative professionals to learn the skills they need to create their own limited edition digital inkjet books. With years of teaching experience Kunsman aims to deliver something that is currently unparalleled in Australia.

A series of your photographs or digital art will be laid out into a book utilizing Adobe InDesign and then printed using the latest in digital inkjet printing technology from Epson and Canon. You will learn about the importance of your media choice and you will be able to work with leading book art papers from Innova digital art paper. Each artist will complete one proof layout to be reviewed by workshop participants before final printing. Upon completion each artist's book will be bound before departing the workshop. Each artist's book will be a case-bound book that will be 9.5"x10.5" in size.

Workshop participants must bring a minimum of 15 digital files on CD or hard drive and 6 x 4 printed copy, of each to use in the book creation. A body of work ready for producing a book always makes the process more enjoyable.

The course caters for all skill levels & allows photographers to dabble with new possibilities & get hands on with new technologies in digital printing. The Innova dual sided book art papers are revolutionary and open a whole new concept for photographers, designer and creatives.

Time Table
Day 1
Morning session - Look at examples provided and discuss the techniques applied for each of the books. Discuss page layout & digital imaging issues while utilizing Adobe Photoshop & InDesign to design a book.
Afternoon Session - Design book & discuss imposition, text usage, and start printing books.

Day 2
Morning Session - Finalize printing of digital books, discuss printing technologies for book publishing & start bookbinding Afternoon Session - Finalize bookbinding & discuss binding
