Just a few months on from an abrupt change of management, with Michael Sherlock and Peter Wong replacing Mark Atkinson and Frank Shapter as the new CEO and CFO respectively, Sydney-based Pegasus Media & Logistics, has confirmed the purchase of an Agfa Jeti Tauro 3300 UHS with full automation. Smartech has confirmed the transaction as its largest ever single equipment deal to date.

Smartech logoItself acknowledging the scale of the investment, Pegasus CEO Michael Sherlock intimated it may well be replicated in the future, saying: “Our business is strategically positioned for growth. This investment will ensure we continue to lead the market with an end-to-end service offering – anchored by a robust print and manufacturing division and enhanced by our 3PL and 4PL warehousing operations, which are powered by an advanced warehouse management system with real-time inventory and reporting capabilities, as well as a global sourcing division.”

Standing out efficiency, quality and speed to market as critical, Sherlock says: “The Jeti Tauro 3300 UHS complements our existing offset operations and significantly extends our print capabilities, particularly the flexibility to print on a wide range of substrates. It will elevate our capabilities within the point of sale and large format segment of the market.”

Earlier this year, the Agfa Jeti Tauro H3300 XUHS took home a trio of EDP (European Digital Press Association) Product Awards, receiving top honours in the engine, automation and ink categories, underscoring its potential in high-volume wide-format inkjet printing. The judging panel talked to the ‘raw performance and versatility’ of the press, comfortably reaching production speeds up to 1,280 m²/h, utilising 12 rows of printheads, and engineering that allows for 24/7 multi-shift operation, ‘from signage to cardboard and specialty substrates’.

In the automation category, Agfa was awarded for the MAX Bots robots on the Jeti Tauro H3300 XUHS. This robotic system for loading and unloading reduces manual handling while maximizing throughput. In combination with the Flex RTR system, the MAX Bots let print service providers switch seamlessly between rigid and roll media, empowering them to run complex, mixed-media jobs with minimal intervention and maximum cost-efficiency.

The machine also combines with the Tauro 30 ink set, designed for high performance on corrugated cardboard and rigid sign materials. It offers consistent jetting reliability, even at higher head gaps, and provides bending resistance up to 180° without cracking. The inks also help reduce costs through low consumption rates, while maintaining a wide colour gamut.

Agfa jeti tauro h3300 full automation“The combination of speed, precision, and automation in the Jeti Tauro H3300 XUHS raises the bar for industrial inkjet printing” said Dieter Jancart, segment manager high-end printing systems at Agfa. “With its advanced robotics, it helps customers handle demanding production schedules while reducing manual labour and error rates. This press isn’t just keeping up with market demands – it’s setting new standards for what print service providers can achieve in terms of quality, efficiency, and versatility.”

Sherlock also acknowledged the instrumental role Smartech and Agfa played in the decision-making process.

“From early discussions around the Jeti Tauro 3300 UHS’ capabilities through to the planning of our imminent delivery to our BlacktownBrett Wark NSW National Sales Manager and National Product Manager for SmartechBrett Wark NSW National Sales Manager and National Product Manager for Smartech headquarters, Smartech and Agfa have addressed every question and offered the confidence required for such a significant investment. The support extended to an on-site visit to Agfa’s Cambridge operation in the UK, which was critical in finalising our decision.”

Smartech NSW sales manager and national product manager – sign and display, Brett Wark, said, “This is a major milestone for Smartech, our partnership with Agfa, and our relationship with Pegasus. We’re incredibly proud of this transaction and look forward to a long-term relationship with Pegasus, supporting their ability to meet customer needs with world-class technology.”
