That headline is deliberately ambiguous! The 'support' is by way of EFI superwide printers, installed at customer Hollywood Monster, being used to print a huge 35 metre x 37metre flag that was held aloft by fans at a recent match at Wembley stadium.
The giant flag was held aloft by around 1,000 visiting Birmingham City fans
Birmingham City FC may be a 'cinderella' football club compared to the big boys at Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea etc, but, since being acquired by US investors including gridiron legend Tom Brady, the club, relegated last season to the lowly 'League One', has broken records and is assured of promotion back to the Chamionshp league, with two games yet to play. Sitting on a massive 105 points at time of writing, 'The Blues' have already smashed the League One points record and, with just 2 more points from its remaining two games, will break the all-time record for any club in the entire English Football League. The giant flag was printed using EFI VUTEk Q5r UV LED 5 metre printers - 'direct-to' and not sublimated. Material chosen was lightweight Ufabrik - only available as a direct import in Australia, from the Chinese factory.
Hollywood Monster is located in Birmingham and has a longstanding relationship with BCFC says Hollywood Monster CEO Simon McKenzie: “We are great fans of Birmingham City FC, EFI UV LED printers and Ufabrik textiles. We’ve enjoyed a three-decade long relationship with Birmingham City FC. What began with producing traditional wooden pitch side signs has evolved into creating cutting edge digital signage and massive fabric installations that showcase the technological journey that both our companies have been on. These massive fan flags convey the strength of the supporters’ love and loyalty towards their team.”
Hollywood Monster runs several EFI printers and Zund Cutters, plus has the ability to weld, eyelet and stitch oversize flags and banners. The largest it has ever produced measures 270 metres x 40 metres.
The business was started in an attic, in 1991, by Tim Andrews, MBE (for charity work) and his father and became Hollywood Monster in 2009 with the merger of Hollywood Signs and Monster Digital. Hollywood is an outer suburb of Birmingham. Today it also has offices in London and Edinburgh, estimated annual revenues of AUD$25 million and employs over 70 people.
In 2022, Hollywood Monster printed and installed most of the signage for the Commonwealth Games, at which Australia topped the medal table with a tally of 67 Golds and a total of 167 medals. How about some big fan flags for our footie teams?
