The Victorian government is offering grants up to $5000 per employee to enrol in free 12-week training courses to learn new digital skills including additive manufacturing, AI, CAD/CAM, cloud computing, cyber security, robotic process automation and web development.

Applications are now open for the Victorian Government’s Digital Jobs for Manufacturing program, and the Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA) is encouraging Victorian-based sign and display businesses to take advantage of the grants.


Organisations looking to build digital capability are the target of a Government initiative which offers Victorian manufacturing businesses fully-subsidised training to upskill existing staff. According to Mick Harrold, president of the ASGA, it’s an ideal opportunity for future-focused industry businesses.

“The Victorian Government is offering grants of up to $5000 per employee to eligible manufacturing businesses to enrol nominated employees in a free 12-week training course to learn new digital skills,” Harrold said.

“Businesses can select from a list of part-time, industry-endorsed courses delivered by Victoria’s top TAFEs, universities and private RTOs. These will run online, part-time, over the 12 week period, so your staff can continue working while they are learning, and on successful completion participants will gain recognised industry credentials.”

The courses available include:

  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning
  • Computer aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
  • Cloud computing
  • Customer relationship management (CRM)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data analytics
  • Digital marketing
  • Enterprise resource planning (ERP)
  • IT operations and support
  • Product management
  • Programming/software development
  • Project management (agile)
  • Robotic process automation (RPA)
  • User experience / interface design (UX/UI)
  • Web development

There will be five intakes for the program, with the first round already complete. Round 2 will commence this month, with further intakes in September 2023, January 2024 and April 2024.

“This is an ideal opportunity to upskill your staff with skills in new, digitally-driven technologies that can help you enhance productivity, efficiency and profitability, and diversify your business offering – however, places are limited, so you’ll need to act quickly if you are interested,” said Harrold.

To qualify, you must commit to providing relevant work activities to enable staff to apply and embed their learning in the workplace.
