The skills shortage and training is recognised as a major challenge in today's graphic communications industry. Industry supplier Starleaton is not sitting on the sidelines regarding this, announcing 'Jump Start' at Visual Impact last week. Jump Start is a programme that finds candidates, places them with employers and Starleaton pays for the training.

IMG 3531Starleaton's "Jump Start" is a welcome initiative in today's skills-tight employment scene.

It's membership-based for employers, and comes with a string of added benefits. Whilst we are working together with AusSIP to connect schools and students with employers, the program is also targeted at people of all ages who are keen to explore new work placement opportunities. Initially we have targeted our Zund install base because the number of available trained operators is way below the demand. The program has now expanded across some of our other print platforms. We are encouraging school leavers & TAFE participation but ultimately Jump Start is all about fast-tracking suitable candidates into real employment and boosting the skills pool."

At Visual Impact Expo, where Jump Start was announced, Starleaton's stand was one of the busiest at the show with a comprehensive display of equipment and consumables including Zünd cutters, Epson and Roland DG printers, the all-new Canon Colorado UV-get printer with white ink, Graphtec vinyl cutters, and a broad array of consumable materials from 3M, Neschen, Brett Martin, Oppboga, PhotoTex, Heytex, Hahnemühle and Starleaton's own HeliXx and Chromajet brands. New was Starleaton's partnership with Xanita & Kroma fibreboards.

Photo&Fine Art was represented by Starleaton in the gallery area (see below) with Epson printers and papers from Hahnemühle, Breathing Colour and ChromaJet.
