Visual Impact Sydney Expo '23, May 3-5, is set to feature a Photo & Fine Art expo, showcasing the growing importance of digital wide-format inkjet print for the reproduction of photographic and art creativity, on a wide range of materials, including museum-grade art papers such as Canson, Hahnemühle, Moab, Breathing Color and Canvases. Some mills have been making high-grade papers for over 600 years.

PAF horseThe demand for museum-quality artwork is growing at something like 8 per cent according to some sources, with top-level printers used to reproduce images on everything from specialist papers, to canvas and other media.

Photography is increasingly making inroads into the art collection and investment market, with editioned prints from both established ‘names’ and contemporary cutting-edge photographers now widely accepted as equally desirable as paintings for collectors and those keen to invest. The drivers for reproduction are primarily Inkjet, but also Silver halide photo-chemical, especially for monochromatic and Duratrans. Galleries have sprung up in major cities and online.

Both paintings and photographic images have also entered the NFT digital asset market, with a growing number of images – and mixed media compilations – now available on digital platforms as well as in physical form. Andy BlueBenchBlue Bench - image: Andy McCourt

This growth in interest, coupled with the increasing sophistication and capabilities of wide-format inkjet printers, is tempting many businesses in the print, sign and display market to move into this high-value market, and also use quality art framing services.

While many can use existing kit to capitalise on opportunities, understanding the market – and identifying the right customers – is a key to success, so the opportunity to learn more and talk to the experts is expected to make the Photo & Fine Art Expo area a popular destination at the show for forward-thinking businesses.
