Smartech Business Systems, headquartered in Hong Kong and active throughout Asia and the USA, has acquired the industry supplier Quadient Oceania (formerly known as Neopost Australia and GBC before that). It's 'business as usual' says National Marketing Manager Morgan Quinn.

Smartech Business Systems is a large organisation and describes itself thus: "We work with leading Fortune 500 companies and SMEs throughout the Asia-Pacific region and North America specialising in innovative technology systems and infrastructures. Our team of expert IT Engineers help our clients navigate the complexities of technology and commerce."

Smartech is already a Quadient dealer throughout Asia, mostly for the mailing and data products. In buying Quadient Oceania, the company has added graphics and signage to its portfolio. According to local Marketing Manager Morgan Quinn, who has been a stable rock throughout the GBC-Neopost, Quadient and now Smartech changes, graphics may well find its way into other Smartech operations too.

"Our graphics brands include HP, Epson and Canon printers and a wide range of finishing equipment from names such as Aristo, Fotoba, Graphtec, Duplo and others. On the consumable media side, we have primarily LG Hausys and the printer-original brands. On the mailing side, we have seen a decline in letters but this has been made up for by the sharp rise in parcel processing. That has been offset by growth in parcel lockers. So it's the same products, many of the same people - business as usual," says Quinn.

The President and CEO of Smartech is the very accomplished Vincent Nair, whose career has covered time with HP, Fuji Xerox and Pitney Bowes. In a letter to all customers he says: "We would like to take the opportunity through this letter to introduce ourselves to you and address some initial questions you may have about how this announcement impacts your current Quadient relationship.

"Headquartered in Hong Kong with a strong presence in the Asia Pacific Region, Smartech’s plans for continual expansion and further capital investment have been accelerated by the acquisition of Quadient Oceania. The company is now on-track to significantly expanding its footprint in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

“Quadient Oceania has an outstanding range of technology solutions supporting the graphics industries which blends perfectly with Smartech’s strong regional business model. We look forwards to supporting the local graphics market within Australia and further building on the excellent customer partnerships within Australia and New Zealand”

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to grow our presence in the Asia-Pacific region, expanding the number of solutions we will be offering to our clients while continuing to collaborate with Quadient as our trusted supplier.

"Being a Quadient dealer throughout Asia, we are familiar with much of the product portfolio and consider the acquisition as a great addition to our existing portfolio. Offering us the opportunity to extend our product line to new international markets, as well as strengthen our marketing and sales capabilities in the region.

"During this period of transition, we would like to ensure all our customers that our primary goal is continuity of service to you all. While the name may be changing, you can be assured that we remain committed to ensuring you receive the same great service, support and product that you have come to expect from the Quadient brand," writes Mr Nair, a golfing enthusiast who was responsible for taking the Australian PGA tour to Fiji and putting the Fiji International on the global map of top-level golf tournaments.

In an earlier announcement in Paris, France, Quadient's CEO Geoffrey Godet stated that the Australian operation employed around 140 people and the total sale price to Smartech was AUD$6 million. Sales revenue in the last financial year is believed to be in the region of AUD$50 million.
