Facing a surge in demand for its Covid-19-related protective gear, Brisbane sign and display business Bailey Print Group has moved its operation 10 minutes south down the freeway into a new high tech printing facility in the manufacturing hub of Sailsbury. Bailey's business development manager Samantha Bailey-Jensen this week won an HIA award recognising the company's pivot into making protective gear for healthcare workers.

“Our new home at The Salisbury Workstores, 605 Toohey Road, Salisbury comprises of two levels of high tech printing and finishing production, including the Bailey Print Garage – a dedicated vehicle wrapping facility," said GM Peter Bailey. "Our bespoke fit out includes complete climate and dust controlled environments, LED movement lighting and solar panels to help reduce our energy footprint.”

“It’s incredible to reflect on our journey from the family dining room table to our new contemporary production house at Salisbury. Through the 80’s screen printing pole banners that took weeks to produce, now we produce them overnight all printed with environmentally friendly inks. Artwork proofs have gone from hand drawn illustrations which would then be delivered to clients for sign off, to email coloured proofs created and signed off within the hour! Even though the technology has changed us, our old school values and customer centric DNA is still as strong as when Ron and Halina [Bailey] were at the helm.”

The passing of the torch to brother and sister team Peter Bailey, general manager, and Sam Bailey-Jensen, business development manager, saw the company move into the digital era and more sustainable printing solutions. The company offers custom textiles, blind mesh, double sided back lits, wallpaper, building facades, vehicle signage, floor decals and more.

“Using HP latex printing technology, we can deliver outstanding image quality, consistency, and durability along with the peace of mind that your prints are odourless, offering the perfect solution for indoor spaces. Healthier printing means the prints are nickel free, hazardous air pollutants free and no hazard warning labels are required. As well as being scratch resistant; HP Latex Inks are UL ECOLOGO®, UL GREENGUARD GOLD Certified, and prints meet AgBB criteria7.”

The company this year created Bailey Protection Gear and began manufacturing Covid-19 related signage and face shields to protect healthcare workers.

The business began operating 22 hours a day, six days a week to fulfill demand as the orders for face shields rolled in, Peter Bailey told Brisbane Business Hub.

“We had two teams running day and night to ensure that production could continue in case a team member fell ill and to meet our social distancing obligations on the floor.

"Our pivot to producing Australian Made Campaign face shields to protect our frontline healthcare workers was recognised with Australian-owned Bailey Protection Gear director Samantha Bailey-Jensen receiving the 2020 HIA Qld Build Women Award - Achievement in Manufacturing and Supply."
