The week following PrintEx, there was another trade show at Sydney Showgrounds – Convex 2019 staged by the Australian Promotional Products Association. This is the main event for anything to do with corporate branding of items, T-shirts, Printwear, umbrellas, totes, pens, mugs – you name it. It was the place to discover all about the new Aeoon Kyo direct-to-garment high speed printers.

The surprise was to see Roland DG and Ricoh represented there with their direct-to-garment textile printing devices but an even greater surprise was to learn that Emroidery machine supplier, Sew Simple, also a Ricoh reseller based in the ACT, has introduced to Australia, industrial-scale digital textile printers made by Aeoon Technologies of Austria.

The Aeoon Kyo series is aimed at high digital productivity of T-shirts, hoodies, totes etc. It is a modular system with ten variants offering between four and twelve Kyocera 2400dpi max. printheads in CMYK, Double CMYK and CMYK plus white inks. The fastest model, the Kyo 8/3 is an 8-head, 3-table model capable of up to 1,280 A4 imprints on white or light coloured T-shirts.

The fastest model for black and dark T-shirts, the Kyo 12/3 has 12 printheads configured CMYK + eight whites and can print up to 350 dark T-shirts per hour including white ink, or 800 light T-shirts without using white. All Aeoon textile printers can be upgraded in the field as production demands grow.

Aeoon also offers the PTB pre-treatment device capable of pre-treating up to 930 T-shirts per hour. The ‘pallets’ from 10 x 10cm to 100 x 200cm number thirty standard sizes, with custom pallets possible.

Sew Simple has long been a leading supplier of automated embroidery technology from ZSK, Toyota and Pro Systems. Father and son team Greg and Luke Carmody run the show and have installed machines all over Australia and Oceania. Now, with the move into direct-to-garment digital printing with Ricoh machines and Aeoon at the high industrial end, the company looks set to enjoy good success in the digital textile print space. Sew Simple also offers Smake textile-specific production workflow software.
