How do you solve the problem of installing 8 tonnes of flatbed UV printer on the 16th floor of a high-rise building?
This was the challenge facing Fujifilm’s Hong Kong team when one of Asia’s largest digital print service providers, Sin Fung Advertising Production Co., opted for the 305 sqm/hr Inca to boost production and quality at its Aberdeen, HK building.
After careful consultation with riggers, local authorities and Inca engineers, a plan was hatched to put the Onset Q40i on a skid to be lifted by crane up 16 floors and inserted through removed windows. Needless to say there were stomach-flutters as the machine dangled from a steel cable but the whole installation went without a hitch and Sin Fung were soon in production with their new Inca.

Fujifilm Australia’s Project & Marketing Manager Steve Peck comments: “We have an Inca Onset Q401 installed at Civic Media in Queensland but, thankfully, it was a ground-level job. It’s fantastic what our Hong Kong colleagues achieved with the Sin Fung install and goes to show what level-headed and proficient engineering thinking can accomplish.”
The Inca Onset Q40i prints at speeds of up to 305m2/hr onto media up to 3.14m x 1.6m and 50mm thick, and uses Fujifilm's Spectra Dimatix QS10 printheads with Uvijet inks. The device delivers a tiny nine picolitre droplet size which results in near-photographic quality, previously not achievable on a high-productivity flatbed UV.
Director of Sin Fung, Wilson Choi says: "Delivering 60 beds per hour, we currently produce around 15 jobs per day with more capacity to take on additional work. It has replaced three other machines."
