Fujifilm Europe has announced that the Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems Limited (FSIS) manufacturing facility for screen and UV wide format ink based in Broadstairs, UK recently won the 2014 ‘Sustainable Innovation’ and ‘Manufacturing Champions’ awards.

Now in its fifth year, the British Coatings Federation (BCF) ‘Sustainable Innovation’ Award recognises, rewards and promotes outstanding innovations within the coatings industry that have the greatest impact on the sustainability of the supply chains in which the industry’s products, processes and services play a key role. The British Coatings Federation is the representative body for the UK’s £2.8 billion-a-year paint, printing ink, powder coating and wall covering manufacturing industries.
FSIS won the 2014 ‘Sustainable Innovation’ award for the company’s state of the art digital ink manufacturing plant, which was opened at the beginning of 2013, being particularly commended for the initiatives which have led to low levels of waste and high recycling figures.
This advanced manufacturing plant was also recently bestowed the ‘Manufacturing Champions’ award within the ‘Team Leader’ category. Scott Henniker and Eric Hitch, digital team leaders at Fujifilm, gained recognition for their commitment and capability to continuously improve the quality, efficiency and production performance at Fujifilm's Broadstairs manufacturing site, and grow its digital ink business. The award was given for the success the team leaders had in embedding best practice into their staff and further increase the level of customer service.
Colin Boughton, operations director at Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems, commented: "We are extremely proud to have been acknowledged as a sustainable and innovative company. The ‘Sustainable Innovation’ award validates our ongoing investment to improve the R&D and manufacturing process and confirms what we have achieved in terms of environmental sustainability, while the ‘Manufacturing Champions’ award acknowledges the hard work the team have put in over the last few years on our journey towards becoming a world class manufacturing plant."
