In Australia and around the world, the photo imaging business is in the midst of revolution. Many industry pundits have likened the effects of digital on the traditional photography business to that of a tsunami. While there has undeniably been a devastating effect on many, the Australian photo industry is now at the rebirthing stage and is looking to a very strong and healthy future indeed. There still will be growing pains, but new players and new products reveal a challenging and exciting future.

All this can be seen and discussed first hand at Asia Pacific's first PMA Imaging Technology Expo to be held May 4th 6th 2007 at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. Visitors to the show will find over 100 major photo and digital companies from Australia and overseas showcasing the cutting-edge developments and trends in imaging technology, software and output printing systems.
Organised by the Photo Marketing Association International, the show has over 10,000 square metres of exhibition space plus a major display of photography.
Held concurrently with the show will be a series of conferences for professional photographers, digital image-makers and photo retailers. The photo retailers' conference program provides an ideal opportunity for dealers to mix with their peers to discuss trends and techniques in retailing. The PMA welcomes all retailers, whether or not they are members, to attend as this is a very important opportunity to find out how to make more money out of business. Retailers come from all over Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific and there would be few that do not find their trip highly profitable by taking advantage of special show deals and gaining new knowledge.
A special purpose build theatre beside the exhibition floor will host the annual quest to find the Professional Photographer of the Year and the selection of the Australian Professional Photography Awards. The judging process will be done in open forum, so that anyone may come along and watch the process.
A day before the show opens on May 4th, PMA International has organised a special Emerging Technology Day where trade delegates will be given an exciting glimpse of what is coming down the pipe line and how to best prepare for the future.
On the last day of the show, Sunday, a special Print Technology Day will look at new ways of making prints and the potential for large format displays in both the commercial and consumer worlds. Top experts from Europe and the United States will be on hand throughout the conference program to help explore exciting new opportunities of profit making.
Admission is free for all trade, business and professional visitors as long as they pre-register on the web. The organisers encourage pre-registration to avoid registration queues and the saving of the $20.00 entrance fee.
Full details and registration information will be available from February 1st at www.photoimaging.com.au
