hi SD, which model did you have? do you still have it? I wouldn't recommend printing in 2 pass unless it is for a banner with a large viewing distance. And for clear vinyl, i would normally recommend 8 pass 720x720 as a minimum.
Or do you mean a 2x Overprint? In that case, i would say more than likely an incorrect profile is the issue.
Many thanks Phil, we use Roland RS-640, which there is no selection of 4 or 6, 8 pass in the Versawork, we normally use 2 overprint for light box film,,or choose the icc profile from suppliers, we called Roland DG techs, they basically said we used wrong icc profile, then we let them try, the both techs couldn't get even near right result, after spent a few hours banding everywhere, we reported to the Syd, Melb. Roland DG, after 1month, they said the media is not compatible, We used Oracal 3162 & 3165 from German and 3M RJ-20 they are all top brands, if these products are not good, then must be something wrong of the pirnter, I personally think the air vacuum holes are too close the the print-head, it happens on VP-640 as well. I think to take legal action to Roland or basically return the machine, not sure can I do that?
Whoever, wants to buy Roland must bring your clear Vinyl try to print a light box film, otherwise, you will fall in the same trap like us, very bad for us.
attached the bad print result.
Where are you based? I'd like to have a look at your settings to get an idea of exactly what is going on. I can do a remote login to check it out. Email me at: ptrumble<at>positivecamtec.com.au (replace <at> with @)
Many thanks. I am in Melbourne base 33-39 Racecourse Rd, Nth. Melbourne. I feel bad if I waste your time, roland DG technicians have spent a few hours, couldn't get it right and it happens in their demo printers in AVS & Artmark in Melbourne Branch, same banding issues, that is why they concluded there is nothing wrong of my printer, what a silly logic.
My Web and contact:
Hi, One more I have to say, I got an old Roland SP-540 and using third party ink, there is no problems at all, prints perfectly in 2pass or 3pass overprint. Can I say the third-party ink better than original ink or I should say my 6 years old printers better than the new printer? It must be a defect of the Roland RS & VP printer.
However, whoever would like to buy the Roland printer have to be careful, not sure will it happen on other brand of Mimaki or Mutoh or not, I will try it out.
Whenever you buy a printer, you must bring your own media to test. Even if it prints nicely, the test isn't over. Cross-hatch adhesion test is vital. OCE would never have sold as many flatbeds as they have if people carried out this simple test using crosshatching cut with box cutter then masking tape apply then tear away. If ink comes off, don't buy. Simple.
