Day 3 of PacPrint was one on which the positive trends of the past two days continued, with another busy day of discussions and negotiations on the exhibition stands, and challenging in-depth presentations and information sessions at the Forum and Workshop theatres.


Around the stands, exhibitors were talking up the quality of visitors, reporting that they were making important connections for future business, starting discussions with many key new contacts, and even collaborating with other exhibitors on future ventures.

In the main theatre, the day kicked off with a challenging and entertaining presentation from Marty Wilson, author of a suite of books on ‘What I wish I knew…’, the premise of which is asking his interviewees what they wish they had been able to tell their 18-year-old selves. The distilled wisdom from thousands of interviews was presented to the audience to – as Wilson put it – ‘help them do work, and life, better’.
The keynote session was followed by an industry panel on Leadership, hosted by Kellie Northwood and featuring Matt Aitken – CEO of IVE Group, Peter Orel – CEO of Finsbury Green, Bruce Fitzgerald – CEO of Signcraft, Andrew Macauley – CEO of Printing Industries, Craig Dunsford – Director of Major Accounts for PMP-IPMG, Ben Eaton – CEO of Starleaton and Vernon Kingman – MD of Kingman Digital.
Covering everything from the qualities and challenges of leadership, to policies and practices on areas like diversity, innovation and business transformation, it was an enlightening look at what makes a good leader…and what those leaders believe is ahead for the industry.
Finally, Lindy Hughson, Editor of Yaffa Publishing’s PKN Packaging News, chaired a session on ‘Prospects in Packaging’, featuring Jason Beckley – Business Development Manager for HP Indigo, HP Inc. South Pacific, Jack Malki – Director of Jet Technologies, Paul O’Sullivan – CEO of Labelmakers and Scott Beadman – GM Flexibles for Graphic Packaging International Australia.
As well as broader industry trends, the panel addressed issues such as changing consumer values and buying behavior, the role of packaging as an increasingly important part of the sales and marketing chain, and the impact of new digital technologies on the ability of packaging to engage the consumer and drive purchases.
In the smaller theatrette, Workshops brought visitors up to date with the solar panel printing project at the University of Newcastle, web-to-print and cross-media communications, and maximizing the benefits of spectro-densitometry.
As the day wore on, more major sales were announced on numerous stands around the exhibition centre, and numbers once again picked up as the day progressed keeping exhibitors busy until show close.
The day concluded with a great celebration of excellence at the 34th National Print Awards at the Plenary in the adjacent Melbourne Convention Centre.
