With VI Sydney around the corner, we checked up to see what competition this show has with others that may draw delegates away. We found two others that could conceivably compete - FESPA Africa – 7-9th September and Sign China – 19 -22nd September.

Not sure about the FESPA Africa show, although we have many ex South Africans in our industry of which one or two may want to trek back to their old country for the show but even so those people may well be back in Sydney for the VI show as well. Sign China is a different animal – several sign and print people, including suppliers will shoot off to Shanghai to be at this show, it is huge and covers the whole spectrum of the sign industry with dedicated halls for each industry sector.

However VI Sydney (15th – 17th September) at the Sydney Showgrounds is always a good show and it is hoped will draw a record crowd. Peter Harper and his team have thrown everything at it in order to maximise the number of delegates.
The show also coincides with the seventh annual Sign Awards (the evening of the 16th September) and those who would like to attend the Gala Dinner Award Ceremony should contact Visual Connections on 02 9868 1577. It should be mentioned that a great prize is up for grabs for one lucky delegate to the Awards.

Other attractions at the show will include several workshops and wrapping demos. The Brisbane show was perhaps the first to demonstrate that Visual Connections, the new organisation behind these event, is broadening the show to include the commercial print industry. Hence we have the likes of The Currie Group exhibiting their mobile showroom – we saw it first at Brisbane.
VI Sydney is co-locating with the POPAI show, so more added value there, especially for the POP people.
The growing list of Chinese companies exhibiting is also becoming apparent, again we saw this at Brisbane. A decade ago we had perhaps one or two Chinese companies, now the list is extensive. This has to be good for the industry as it broadens the range of options available to our local industry. Most of these companies are marketing media and inks.
