“Last year we predicted that 2011 would be a tipping-point in direct to garment technology in Australia and we are very pleased to see that through our close relationship with Brother Australia that this prediction has become a reality with tremendous interest in these products throughout the year and more and more people realising the true potential that exists in this now proven technology,” Stone said.

“We even worked over the Christmas holiday break installing garment printers for customers due to the exceptional demand,” he added.

The latest GJS Machinery customer to take advantage of the benefits of direct to garment printing is Alexandria-based printing firm T-shirt Magic who installed a Brother GT-782 garment printer over the Christmas break.

Inkjet garment printing is more economical, faster, and cleaner than traditional screen printing methods, plus it requires significantly less operating space and business start-up costs. With Brother garment printers, decorators and t-shirt designers can create one of a kind creations or mass production runs - regardless of the number of colours - without having to create film positives, stretching screens, and using chemicals to reclaim these screens. There is virtually no limit to the number of colours you can print, and the colours remain crisp and vibrant even after repeated washes.

GJS Machinery announced the first Brother direct to garment printer, the GT-541, to the Australian market in April 2010 through its then new distribution agreement with Brother International Australia. In January 2011, GJS brought to market the Brother GT-782, the industry’s most cost effective, industrial dual platen, white ink capable direct to garment printer.

“2012 is shaping up to be another exciting year for the direct to garment market in Australia.
