HP customers celebrated outstanding achievements in digital printing, with 55 printing companies across Asia Pacific recognised for outstanding innovation and creativity in labels and packaging, signage, and commercial printing categories.

The sixth instalment of HP Print Excellence Awards, Asia Pacific and Japan, for HP Indigo, and the fourth for HP Sign and Display were held in conjunction with Dscoop Asia 2013. This year’s regional competition attracted close to 300 entries from PSPs across 14 countries. Applications produced on HP Scitex Industrial Printers and Presses and Indigo Digital Presses were considered for the awards in 25 categories.

“Printing companies are constantly challenged by customers to deliver creative print-work within short timelines,” said Gido van Praag, vice president and general manager, Graphics Solutions Business, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. “The HP Print Excellence Awards, Asia Pacific and Japan, provides a platform to share best practices that have helped our customers make a successful impact.”
Grand Winners

Four printing companies received the Grand Winner accolades for outstanding print work with HP Sign & Display and HP Indigo technologies.
•    Overall Grand Winner, HP Indigo - Carbon8 Pty Ltd, Australia
•    Overall Grand Winner, HP Sign & Display - Adsells Group of Companies, Pakistan
•    Grand Winner, Photo Book Category, HP Indigo - Momento Pro, Australia
•    Grand Winner, Labels & Packaging, HP Indigo - YOSHIMURA Packaging Co Ltd, Japan
In addition, BUZZIMC, A unit of Samgul Graphics &  Printers, (India) received the Most Creative Award using HP Indigo technology.

HP Sign & Display
Entries for the HP Sign & Display were judged across the following categories: Transit Graphics, Exhibitions and Events, Outdoor Advertising, Retail Point of Purchase/Point of Sale, Green Digital Printing, and Innovative Application/Unique Media. The award assessment criteria included innovation and creativity, marketing appeal, use of ink and colour, and overall aesthetics.

Among the winners for HP Sign & Display is Cactus Imaging, which was the Gold winner in the Innovative Application/Unique Media category for completing a building wrap that brought a heritage site to life within tight deadlines.

Keith Ferrel, General Manager, Strategic Business Development at Cactus Imaging in Australia said: “The HP Scitex XP5500 helped us bring the idea to wrap Sydney’s Town Hall – one of the city’s much loved heritage buildings - to life. With just 48 hours to finish and install the massive wrap, we really put the Scitex to the test. The end result was a realistic look with high colour accuracy. Our customer was thrilled. HP technologies have allowed us to take on projects that were never possible before. We’re incredibly pleased to have been recognised by HP for our work on this particular project.”

HP Indigo – Commercial and Industrial Press
Entries printed on HP Indigo and Inkjet Web Presses were judged under the following categories: Photo Book (Consumer, Premium, Arts), General Commercial Printing (Calendars, Restaurant Menus), Direct Mail and Transpromo, Books and Manuals, Limited Edition / Art Reproduction, Shrink Sleeves and Labels and Packaging (Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Food Labels, Health and Beauty Labels, Industrial Labels, Wine and Spirits, Flexible Packaging, Flexible Tubes).

The award assessment criteria included shelf appeal, suitability and impact of the design to the purpose, quality reproduction of solid images and fine lines, uniqueness and innovation.
Among the winners for HP Indigo is Jing Pin Dao Yuan Culture Communication Co., Ltd., winner of the Restaurant Menu Category.  
Miao Wentong, General Manager of Beijing-based Jing Pin Dao Yuan Culture Communication Co., Ltd., said: “We are excited and proud to be a winner in the 2013 HP Digital Print Awards. Our aim has always been to set benchmarks for the industry with our quality prints. This annual competition held in the Asia Pacific and Japan is part of the worldwide HP Print Excellence Awards 2013. Similar regional competitions are being held in Latin America and Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA).
